Eccrine sweat glands

Eccrine sweat glands are simple, coiled tubular glands which are buried deep in the dermis or in the upper portion of the hypodermis. Several million glands are present over the surface of the skin, particularly:

  • palms and soles
  • hairless areas
  • axillae

Eccrine glands produce sweat as a means of thermoregulation and as an emotional response.
