Characteristics suggesting underlying pathology

There are four characteristics which suggest that a child with bow legs or knock knee has an underlying pathology:

  • an inter-malleolar distance of greater than 10 cm
  • a family history of skeletal abnormality
  • asymmetry of the knees
  • abnormally short stature
