Treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms:

  • minor - rest the arm in a sling and give a short course of suitable NSAID such as indomethacin
  • moderate - injection of corticosteroid and a local anaesthetic into the calcified area - may require up to 3 injections for complete relief
  • severe or symptoms recur - aspiration of the calcified material
