Valgus

This is an angulatory deformity of a limb away from the midline.

The point of reference is always proximal e.g. a patient with knock knees has genum valgum - the lower leg being displaced away from the midline below the knee.

Valgus deformities relate to the midline of the body whereas abduction relates to the midline of the hand or foot. Thus adduction of the big toe accentuates a valgus deformity.
