The treatment for angiofibromata is controversial, not least because the tumour has a tendency to recede in the third decade.

There are two main therapeutic options:

  • surgery with possible pre-operative embolization to reduce bleeding
  • radiotherapy

As an androgen dependent tumour, bleeding may respond to hormone therapy which may be performed pre-operatively to reduce bleeding.
