Usually, camptodactyly is sporadic in nature. However, it can be inherited either as part of a syndrome (see main menu) or as an autosomal-dominant trait. For the latter, it passes down successive generations with variable expressivity - its full phenotype may not develop - and incomplete penetrance - it may skip a generation altogether.
