The Soave procedure for Hirschsprung's disease involves stripping the mucosa out of the aganglionic rectum, and pulling normal bowel through the residual cuff. Anastomosis is performed 1cm above the dentate line. The mucosal stripping is facilitated by injecting saline starting just above the peritoneal reflection. The mucosa is removed as a complete tube after completion of the stripping through the anal canal.
