Orthoptic liver transplantation

The more common method is to remove the diseased organ and replace it with an orthoptic liver transplant. This method however requires lifelong immunosuppression and more importantly, particularly for transplantation in acute liver failure, it eliminates any possibility that the native liver may regenerate.
