Epidemiology
A community study of 421 Icelandic patients with their first episode of shingles showed the following prevalence of post-herpetic neuralgia:
- 19.2% at one month
- 7.2% at three months
- 3.4% at one year
Other studies have suggested a higher prevelance of pain.
