Activity scheduling

Authoring team

Activity scheduling is the process where patients keep an hour by hour record of their activities and rate each activity for salient features such as pleasure, sense of mastery, and anxiety/depression.

They are used in a variety of different ways; for example, hopelessness and self-blame can lead some patients to stop engaging activities which they previously enjoyed or obtained a sense of mastery from.

Having identified this problem, therapist and patient can use the activity schedule to monitor and increase the number of pleasurable activities a patient engages in.

This technique is used in cognitive therapy.
