Facial appearance
There are characteristic facial appearances associated with psychiatric disorders:
- a sad face with downturned corners of the mouth, flattened expressions and vertical furrowing of the brows suggests depression
- horizontal furrowing of the brow with wide eyes, sweating and dilated pupils suggests anxiety
- a expressionless, mask-like face suggests the parkinsonian syndrome
- Graves' disease is characterised by exophthalmos
