Presentation of family problems
The following may be indicators of the existence of family problems:
- frequent surgery attendance or fat envelope syndrome
- frequent attendance of several members of the family
- presentation of seemingly minor complaints
- the difficult patient
- abnormal or difficult behaviour in a child
- marital or sexual difficulties
- inappropriate antenatal or postnatal behaviour
- alcohol or drug abuse in the family
- physical or sexual abuse of a member of the family
- psychiatric disorders
- susceptibility to illness
- increased stress or anxiety
