Fregoli syndrome derives its name from an actor who had a remarkable skill in changing his facial appearance.
In this condition the patient identifies a familiar person, usually someone he believes to be his persecutor, in various encounters. The patient maintains that these people do not actually resemble the familiar person however they appear to be psychologically identical.
This condition is associated with schizophrenia.
