Masked depression

Masked depression usually presents as a series of somatic symptoms with the patient denying low mood.

Typical symptoms include:

  • tiredness
  • lack of drive
  • anhedonia
  • hypochondria

Once organic causes for the symptoms have been excluded a trial of antidepressant medication should be given.
