Psychogenic vomiting is a syndrome comprising repeated paroxysms of vomiting without an underlying organic cause. It is a diagnosis of exclusion.
Most frequently, vomiting occurs after meals and without a sense of nausea. Unlike its main differential bulimia nervosa, psychogenic vomiting is not associated with a disordered perception of body image.
Treatment entails a supportive explanation of the condition's genesis, regular small meals, and avoidance of stress.
