Rugger jersey spine

Patients with secondary or tertiary hyperparathyroidism develop a characteristic pattern of vertebral body osteopenia with simultaneous subchondral osteosclerosis.

The striped pattern on the plain lumbar spine radiograph is termed a "rugger jersey spine".
