Pleurodynia
Pleurodynia is a paroxysmal pain in the region of the intercostal muscles on breathing. It may rarely be associated with a pleural friction rub detectable on auscultation.
Causes include:
- pneumonia
- pulmonary infarction
- pulmonary, pleuritic or chest wall neoplasia
- fractured ribs
- muscle strains
- herpes zoster in early stages
- Bornholm disease
