Raised hemidiaphragm
Pathology is either below, within or above the diaphragm.
Abdominal pathology:
- space occupying lesion:
- cyst
- haematoma
- tumour
- ascites
- subphrenic infection
- abdominal surgery
Diaphragmatic pathology:
- paralysed hemidiaphragm due to phrenic nerve palsy:
- lung cancer
- mediastinal cancer
- diaphragmatic rupture
- tumour:
- rhabdomyoma
- fibroma
- lax diaphragm
Thoracic pathology:
- lung fibrosis
- lung collapse
- pneumonectomy
- painful pleuritis
- pulmonary embolus
- rib fracture
Conditions which mimic a raised hemidiaphragm include:
- subpulmonic effusion
- chest mass
