Electromyography in polymyositis
Compared to normal muscle, that in polymyositis shows:
- reduced duration and amplitude of action potentials
- greatly increased proportion of polyphasic action potentials
- in severe weakness, the number of action potentials may be reduced
- occasionally, there may be spontaneous fibrillations from the distal part of the neurone
