The anterior or anterior pectoral group of axillary lymph nodes is characterised by:

  • 3-4 nodes
  • location:
    • medial wall of axilla
    • accumulate around lateral thoracic vessels
    • posterolateral to pectoralis major at its inferior border
    • may be within or superficial to the pectoralis fascia
  • tend to pass lymphatic drainage on to the central and apical groups of axillary nodes
