Liver transplantation in primary biliary cirrhosis
The only treatment which clearly improves the prognosis in primary biliary cirrhosis is liver transplantation.
One year survival is 85-90% with subsequent survival close to healthy people of the same age.
It is unusual for severe disease to recurr in the transplanted liver.
