Platelet-derived growth factor
Platelet-derived growth factor is a peptide cytokine produced from:
- platelets
- mononuclear phagocytes
- endothelial cells
- epithelial cells
Its present known in vitro functions include:
- increased phagocytosis
- increased neutrophil oxidative killing
- stimulation of the division of fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells
- increased secretion of metalloproteinases with a role in tissue repair
- stimulation of chemotaxis for monocytes and granulocytes
