    • child maltreatment should be suspected if there is a report or appearance of a human bite mark that is thought unlikely to have been caused by a young child
    • neglect should be considered if there is a report or appearance of an animal bite on a child who has been inadequately supervised

  • for the purposes of the guideline (1), to consider child maltreatment means that maltreatment is one possible explanation for the alerting feature or is included in the differential diagnosis
  • for the purposes of the guideline (1), to suspect child maltreatment means a serious level of concern about the possibility of child maltreatment but is not proof of it
