This injury is typically seen in boxers and motorcyclists and is caused by forceful dorsiflexion of the wrist combined with a longitudinal impact.

Treatment is reduction by traction, manipulation and thumb pressure. If the reduction is unstable then the joint may be held stable with Kirschner wire until the soft tissues heal.

A protective slab may be worn for about 6 weeks. If the reduction is unstable then it may need to be held with a Kirschner wire until the soft tissues have healed.
