Dose of Ipecac emetic mixture paediatric - children 15-30ml - adults 30-45ml Follow with warm water to drink Repeat emetic and water after 15 minutes if necessary
Do not use emetic if: - corrosive (except paraquat - nothing to lose) - petroleum products (dangerous inhalation risk)
Use emetic only if: - conscious, cooperative patient - gag reflex present - within four hours of taking, unless pylorospasm (as with aspirin), gastrostasis or enteric coated or slow-release Rx
