Primary survey
The primary survey of the patient with major burns follows ATLS precepts with slight modifications given the nature of the burn:
- airway maintenance with cervical spine control
- breathing and ventilation
- circulation with haemorrhage control
- disability and neurological status
- exposure with environmental control
- fluid resuscitation
- investigations
- monitoring of patient
- analgesia
