Contraindications and cautions
Contraindications and cautions:
- Oesophageal obstruction or previous gastric surgery making endoscopy and tube placement mechanically difficult
- Gastric outlet obstruction
- Coagulation disorders may precipitate haemorrhage during tube placement
- Abdominal ascites or gross obesity
- Abdominal sepsis / peritonitis
- Renal patients with CAPD catheters
- Oesophageal varices or active gastric ulcers
- Known pharyngeal pouch
- Malignancy at the anticipated puncture site.
- Patients with artificial heart valves will need pre procedural antibiotic cover
