Complications
Complications most commonly arise following fracture dislocation:
- there may be anterior or posterior shoulder dislocation, requiring closed or open reduction
- avascular necrosis of the humeral head following fracture of the humeral neck
- axillary nerve and brachial plexus injury
- shoulder joint stiffness - due to soft tissue damage and haemorrhage
- malunion
