The treatment of adolescent kyphosis is dependent upon the degree of curve and the age of the patient.
If the curve is only mild then back-strengthening exercises and postural training are all that are required.
If the curve is more severe but the child has some years of growth left then this may respond well to a period of 12-24 months in a brace.
Operative correction or fusion may be required for the older adolescent or young adult with a rigid curve of more than 60 degrees.
