Tubocurarine is a non-depolarising muscle relaxant. It is a bisquaternary amide and so tends to cause histamine release in vivo. This can cause an erythematous chest rash. Blockade of ganglia can cause hypotension, especially at the onset of its effects (3-5 minutes). Once relaxation has occurred, the effect lasts for up to half an hour.
It is eliminated by the kidney and so care must be taken in patients with renal compromise.
