Endometrial tuberculosis
- tuberculosis of the genital tract is rare in the UK; it most commonly occurs amongst high-risk groups e.g. immigrants from Asia
- tuberculosis spread is blood-borne and generally tuberculosis affects the fallopian tubes and then the endometrium
- clinical features:
- presentation is variable and possibilities include:
- acute salpingitis
- infertility
- menstrual disorders e.g. oligomenorrhoea, amenorrhoea
- pelvic pain
- pyosalpinx
- presentation is variable and possibilities include:
- management includes:
- exclusion of pulmonary TB
- chemotherapy as for pulmonary tuberculosis
- endometrial histology will needed to be repeated after a year
