This is an extreme expression of food preference.
If parents indulge a child, allowing him/her to 'decide' on which food is consumed, then it is likely that sweets and similar snack foods will be favoured at the expense of more nutritious meals.
To 'treat' this behaviour, the child should be given the opportunity to eat the same food as the rest of the family with no alternatives. The child should not be coerced into eating. There should be no food available except at mealtimes. The child will become hungry and will start to join in with communal eating.
