Gastric band bariatric surgery
Description:
- an adjustable band is placed around the top part of the stomach to create a small pouch
- band can be adjusted via an access port
- band consists of a silicone tube with a balloon device on one end and an inflation port on the other
- tightness of the band can be adjusted by altering the volume of liquid within the band by a simple injection into the port

Impact on Nutrition:
- no impact on absorption
- over-tightened band affects the nutritional quality of diet, including protein and iron.
