Orchitis

Orchitis is inflammation of the testis.

Acute orchitis is usually viral. Presentation is with a painful, swollen testis.

Chronic orchitis may follow:

  • trauma or surgery involving the spermatic cord
  • tertiary syphilis - now rare in the UK

Presentation is with diffuse, non-tender testicular enlargement.
