Agenda

  • Sleep

GPs are often approached about difficulties with sleep, but GP training rarely covers this extremely important topic. This session will cover what we mean by sleep, why we need it, and how it this differs from fatigue. It will also outline the consequences of poor sleep, the role of light and routine, sleep hygiene and the prescribing (or non-prescribing) strategies we can use to improve sleep.

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

This session will revisit what we mean by chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), provide an update on the latest guidance on investigating and treating CFS, explore other conditions that cause chronic fatigue and review symptoms and conditions associated with CFS.

  • Menopause

This session will review what we mean by menopause and the hormonal changes behind it, explore some of the holistic aspects of menopause and its impact on the population, outline strategies for effective consultations and review prescribing practices for hormone replacement therapy (HRT), including how to personalise treatments and approaches.

  • Anaemia in pregnancy and gestational diabetes

Everything a GP should know when seeing pregnant women with anaemia or gestational diabetes, including handy checklists for what should be covered when carrying out a 6-week postnatal check for these women.

  • Sustainable asthma management

A step-by-step guide for how patients can help to reduce their environmental impact while improving their asthma management.

  • Breathing problems after COVID-19

Breathing problems remain one of the most common long-term effects of COVID-19. Here, we will look at how to make a positive diagnosis of breathing pattern disorder, and how we can help patients struggling with it.

  • Investigating suspected lung cancer

A discussion on which patients may require further investigations for suspected lung cancer after a normal chest X-ray, and a look at the targeted Lung Health Checks being rolled out across England.
