Side effects
Adverse effects include:
- hypo's:
- hypotension and dehydration
- hypokalaemia or magnesaemia
- hyponatremia
- hypochloraemia
- impotence
- hyper's:
- hyperkalaemia
- hyperuricaemia and gout
- hyperglycaemia and diabetes
- hypercalcaemia
- hypercholesterolaemia
- others:
- renal impairment
- antiandrogenic effect - spironolactone
- renal stones - triamterene
- alkalosis, which further limits potassium retention
