Holocrine
Holocrine is an adjective describing a cell releasing its secretion by disintegration of the whole cell. Examples include the:
- production of sebum by the breakdown of sebaceous cells lining the pilosebaceous canal
- shedding of keratin in the cornified layer of the skin by accumulation within keratinocytes
