Miscellaneous causes
- pulmonary infarction, usually due to pulmonary embolism
- uraemia
- post-cardiac surgery or post-myocardial infarction
- acute pancreatitis - usually left sided, amylase content is very high
- sarcoidosis is a very rare cause of exudate formation in the pleural space
- yellow nail syndrome
- familial mediterranean fever
