- high incidence areas for the disease include the Middle East, especially the inbred Bedouin populations of Kuwait. Here the incidence is as high as 1 in 13,500
- incidence of BBS is also high in Newfoundland with the syndrome occurring is 1 in 16,000 individuals
- throughout the rest of the world however, the incidence is extremely low with only one in 160,000 people being affected. (1)
- the syndrome may also be more common in men with there being a female to male ratio of 1:1.3
