Kidney (anaerobic glycolysis)
The kidney can be divided into two regions on the basis of glycolytic pathways:
- cortex: richly supplied with oxygenated blood and is thus capable of oxidative glycolysis
- medulla: poorer blood supply with requirement for anaerobic respiration
