Growth hormone is increased by:

  • any deficiency of substrate for energy, ie hypoglycaemia, exercise, fasting
  • increases in levels of some amino acids, for example after a protein meal
  • glucagon
  • stress
  • the act of going to sleep
  • sex hormones
