T3, total, reduced

T3 will be reduced in congenital hypothyroidism, but otherwise it is not usually reduced in hypothyroidism.

Situations in which T3 may be falsely lowered:

  • severe infection
  • post myocardial infarction
  • chronic liver disease
  • chronic renal failure
  • post surgery
  • drug induced causes
