Patients with type 2 diabetes (NIDDM) may/may not present osmotic symptoms
Patients with type 2 diabetes may have osmotic symptoms at time of diagnosis - and this case require only a single HbA1c reading of >=48mmol/l. Without osmotic symptoms then two readings of >= 48 mmol/l are required for diagnosis of diabetes.
