Behavioural methods
It is now believed that certain behaviours are a learned response to particular circumstances, and that it is possible to modify these responses. Behavioural therapy aims to change harmful and unhelpful behaviours that an individual may have. Behavioural methods include:
- behavioural experiments are used to challenge negative thought processes
- graded exposure to real or imaginary situations
- target setting and rewards
- role playing
