How to practise EBM

Authoring team

Rather than using scarce study time attempting to read every report on every medical advance, the doctor should be more focussed. EBM means adopting the habit of making selective, efficient, patient-centred searches for evidence and incorporating what stands up to scrutiny into everyday practice.

EBM is a life-long process of:

  • asking clinical questions
  • tracking down the best evidence
  • assessing the evidence
  • applying the results in practice and
  • evaluating subsequent performance
