There are two enantiomers, the R(+) and S(-) forms, both of which are well absorbed.
The S form is metabolized to 7-hydroxywarfarin and has a half-life of 32 hours. It is four times more potent than the R form.
The R form is metabolized to warfarin alcohols. It has a half-life of 54 hours.
Differences between the characteristics of the two forms are important in some drug interactions.
