Parathyroid hormone infusion test

This test consists of infusing the subject with parathyroid hormone and measuring urinary phosphate and cAMP.

Using this test the two types of pseudohypoparathyroidism can be distinguished:

  • type I:
    • cAMP levels do not rise
    • phosphate levels do not rise

  • type II:
    • cAMP levels do rise
    • phosphate levels do not rise
