Pylorospasm

Authoring team

This is a cause of vomiting that may be seen in the neonatal period. Sometimes this condition may persist for weeks and cause confusion in diagnosis with infantile pyloric stenosis. Note though that there is no tumour to be felt in the right upper quadrant. Also unlike pyloric stenosis, a metabolic alkalosis is never present in this syndrome.

There is an association between this condition and cerebral birth injury in association with hyperkinetic and deprived infants.
