Cystic remnants of the omphalomesenteric duct may persist and be asymptomatic for long periods of time. The cysts are usually small, spherical mobile swellings connected to the ileum by a fibrous band which is a remnant of the obliterated vitelline duct.
Patients may present with acute volvulus or with an acute abdomen caused by infection of the cyst. Treatment is by excision.
