Via indirect alteration of an endogenous agonist
Drugs may act via an indirect alteration of the effect of an endogenous agonist as follows:
- physiological antagonism - glucagon vs insulin
- increase in endogenous release - Ecstasy
- inhibition of endogenous re-uptake - tricyclics
- inhibition of endogenous metabolism - selegiline
- prevention of endogenous release - chromoglycate
